Summary:
The first Silent Hill featured quite some shocking elements back in its day.
While people were used to the general 'going around slashing mummies, or going around shooting zombies and finding keys'
type genre, BOOM! out came Silent Hill, introducing a more psychologial, "Scary" atmosphere. The type of horror that doesn't
mean loading a shotgun and blowing a zombies head off, but the type that makes you scared to open the next door, or go down the corridor
that is pitch black where anything could happen. But while this new creation was better, the first installment also lacked alot of 'good' things.
The action (combat, if you will) was pretty rusty and common for back then. Most of the enemies weren't anything too flashy (but beats zombies and giant snakes).
But with it came what stood out from others. Being held in an actual wide open town with many building to explore, instead of just one or two stages,
was great. It kept you wanting to keep playing it, because you knew there was so much more to do soon.
The cutscenes had a much more realistic touch to them as well. So it may not be 'The Best", but it's the mother of the series, and should be played/owned by all.

Summary:
Silent Hill 2 is a total blow away for anyone who's a fan. The amount of emotion and twists and darkness that went into it was so much better than the first.
What made it so great was the fact that fighting wasn't the main answer to this game. Although some places, mainly the streets, were packed
with nasties, but you could easily avoid them because of the slow movement they had and the wide area you had to go around them.
Besides that, the way they were designed based on the characters' feelings and hatred was awesome! Plus there's Pyramid Head ;)
The locations are pretty daunting to explore too, in a good way. It is very dark and grimey, really bringing out the fear effect in exploring.
The characters fit in well with the plot, and the puzzels are pretty decent too, they are good but not too hard so that you give up.
Cutscenes look like the best in the series with the graphics, and the sound went well with the locations and the enemies.
If you must buy any Silent Hill game to start out with, get Silent Hill 2.

Summary:
You may be wondering how I could make Silent Hill 3 my favourite, but I shall explain.
The story follows the first installment but made it better, I think.
The way that half the game is held outside of Silent Hill, then the second half is in Silent Hill is great.
So it was different, but not too different to mess it up.
Action-wise, it was the greatest, it had alot more enemies in places but not overdone (Cough! Silent Hill 4 Cough!).
Some places didn't even have enemies so that evened it out, increasing the "not knowing what's ahead" feel.
The locations in it are the best so far, as are the graphics. Puzzels are decent, along the lines of Silent Hill 2 but maybe easier.
The cutscenes are interesting and it has the best soundtrack. Trust me, Silent Hill 3 is the scariest game in my point of view.
In some places where the floors look so corroded, and the walls look like malting larva with the screen tinted a bright orange, with ghastly
screeches and heavy drum-beats, you might crap yaself. As for the characters, the story and the return of Harry makes them very interesting.
5 Outta 5!

PS: Buy The Soundtrack!

Ok........Well the story and plot was great. I enjoyed the whole 'Locked in his apartment, crawling through holes' thing, that was awesome.
But I'm really going to have a bitch about the rest :P   This doesn't feel like a Silent Hill game at all, I loathed most of it.
For one, there were too many damn enemies in it, it was more like an action game. All horror elements were chucked out the window.
All you basically do is rush around looking all over the place blasting herds of enemies, it feels more like Resident Evil 4 (Even though that was good!)
And that brings on another point, the enemies weren't scary at all. I don't find floating zombies scary, and we're all used to Dog enemies by now.
The only enemy that was somewhat disturbing was the Twin Victims, so they are responsible for giving the enemies '1/5' and not '0/5'.
The characters aren't anything special either, although I like how Henry was more confused by what was happening unlike most characters
in games who act like 'Monsters aren't anything unusual'. 80% of the locations were crap! I only kind of enjoyed the Water Prison world, and
the last Apartment World. Cutscenes were mediocre, there wasn't much and they didn't last very long or have an effect on the game.
I read reviews saying this game was garbage, but I ignored them and thought "It might ok, just some narrow minded individuals want more"..
Don't be a fool like me, it is garbage. But at the same time, the Walter Sullivan case and soundtrack was good.
Let's just say "It had potential, but they ruined it", and leave it at that.

PS: Buy This Soundtrack Too!
